Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-07. These terms govern your use of the Felt reference software and website. They are written in plain language on purpose. This is not legal advice.

1. What Felt is

Felt is open-source software that lets people play peer-to-peer poker on public EVM blockchains. It is a decentralized, ownerless, non-custodial protocol — not a company, not a casino, and not a licensed or regulated gambling operator. No one runs "the house." There is no operator who accepts your funds, sets the odds, or settles your hands. The immutable smart contracts do that, and their rules are public and cannot be altered, paused, or reversed by anyone — including us.

2. No custody, no account

You never deposit funds "with Felt." Your buy-in sits in an immutable on-chain escrow that only you and the other players at your table can release, exactly as the contract's code dictates. There is no account to open, no email, no identity check performed by the protocol. You interact directly from your own wallet.

3. Your responsibility

You are solely responsible for using the software lawfully where you are. Online poker for real value is restricted or prohibited in many jurisdictions. Before you play, you must determine whether it is legal for you, and you accept full responsibility for any tax, reporting, or licensing obligations that apply to you. Felt performs no geoblocking and makes no representation that use is lawful in your location.

4. No fee to a house — only a disclosed frontend fee

The protocol takes no rake to any house address. On-chain, network rake accrues to the block validator, never to a person we control. The reference client may charge a small, disclosed frontend fee for the convenience of the interface; it is shown to you and trends toward zero as clients compete. You are always free to run your own client or a different one.

5. Software provided "as is"

The software is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Blockchains, smart contracts, wallets, and cryptography carry inherent risk. Bugs, chain reorganizations, RPC failures, key loss, and adversarial behavior can all cause irreversible loss of funds. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the contributors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the software.

6. Testnet posture

Until an external cryptographic and security audit is complete, Felt is intended for testnet and play-money use only. Do not risk funds you cannot afford to lose.

7. No unlawful use

Do not use the software to commit fraud, launder funds, evade sanctions, or for any purpose unlawful in your jurisdiction. The protocol is permissionless; that freedom is yours to exercise responsibly.

8. Changes

The software and this document may change over time. The immutable contracts, once deployed, do not — a new version is a new deployment. Continued use of a given client means you accept the terms shipped with it.
